Message From The President

I am extremely happy to announce that Bangladesh Matchbox Collector's Club (BMCC) is going to organise the ever first international online Matchbox and Labels Exhibition both in the history of Bangladesh and Indian subcontinent. I warmly welcome all the participants who have joined the event from around the world to make it colorful.

Matchboxes used to be part and parcels of every days life back at a time. But as modern science and technology developed over the years, use of matchboxes became fewer and fewer and now matchboxes are almost on the verge of extinction.

Matchbox is not merely a box containing matchsticks to light fire, it has always been an amazing platform of artwork as it portrayed the culture, language, heritage, history, geography, politics, national heroes and almost everything of a country in the form of beautiful miniature artworks.

Today matchboxes have become one of the most rarest and sensitive collectible items. Phillumenists are the people who captivated by the splendour and beauty of the matchboxes, love to collect matchboxes, are enthusiastic to preserve the history of matchboxes and research on history and artwork of matchboxes. Phillumenists act as link between the present and past through the wonderful world of phillumeny. Carefully they keep their matchboxes and labels and other related items in a precise and meticulous way so that new generations can take a look at the beautiful items, thinking about the bygone days and it's culture and custom.

BMCC is an organisation which works with dedicated matchbox collectors for the matchboxes. BMCC has got dedicated and passionate collectors who tirelessly work to promote the hobby of phillumeny, preserve the history of matchboxes and organise special arrangements to let people know about the history and magnificence of matchboxes so that they come to realize the value of matchboxes as sensitive collectible items. For the first time we are going to arrange an international online exhibition on phillumeny, which I firmly believe, will contribute to promote the amazing hobby specially among the new generation people and inspire the collectors with a forward push leading them to further study and research with high level dedication with their hobby.

I thank all our selection committee members and our technical crew members for their hard work over the last days to carry out all the tasks quite professionally to make the event successful and bringing out this catalogue and the other souvenir items. My heartiest felicitations to all the participants once again.

For the first time we have organised such an International Exhibition. There might have been some unwanted and unwilling mistakes, wrongdoings or technical problems regarding the exhibition as we didn't have earlier experiences. We request everyone to pardon us if we have done anything mistakenly. We hope to continue this exhibition each year with much more accuracy, perfection and discipline learning from first-time mistakes. Keep in touch with us in future days too, together we will keep on working for a better future.

Regards

Shakil Huq

President, BMCC

  1. How can I be a part of this group. Our family had a very good role play in match sector since 1974 to 2000. My father was one of the role model in that sector. He was a key member of Bangladesh match manufacturer association.
I would like to be a part of your group. My contact
